Texas energy projects by the numbers

From ERCOT's September 2026 interconnection report · rebuilt every month

How many solar, wind, and battery projects are proposed in Texas, where they are, how far along they are, and what changed this month, in plain numbers from ERCOT's latest report. Click a question for its answer.

How many energy projects are proposed in Texas right now?

ERCOT's September 2026 interconnection report lists 1,789 proposed projects across 194 Texas counties, about 438,768 MW in all. ERCOT covers most of Texas; the Panhandle, parts of northeast and east Texas, and El Paso are on other grids and are not counted here.

How many solar farms are proposed in Texas?

610 solar projects, about 149,641 MW. The counties with the most proposed solar capacity are Pecos (8,875 MW), Wharton (3,874 MW), Borden (3,852 MW), Milam (3,396 MW), Brazoria (3,169 MW).

How much battery storage is proposed in Texas?

869 battery storage projects, about 157,258 MW, the largest category by count. The counties with the most proposed battery capacity are Harris (6,243 MW), Brazoria (5,747 MW), Bexar (4,983 MW), Wise (3,826 MW), Mitchell (3,824 MW). Some batteries are listed at 0 MW because they are sized below their site's total.

How many wind projects are proposed in Texas?

159 wind projects, about 48,395 MW. The counties with the most proposed wind capacity are Pecos (4,657 MW), Zapata (1,974 MW), Jim Hogg (1,746 MW), Brazoria (1,744 MW), Deaf Smith (1,740 MW).

Which Texas county has the most proposed energy projects?

By count: Pecos (57), Brazoria (56), Wharton (42), Harris (33), Milam (29). By capacity: Pecos (21,374 MW), Brazoria (11,487 MW), Wharton (8,625 MW), Wilbarger (8,506 MW), Reeves (8,350 MW).

What are the largest proposed projects in Texas?

The five largest by capacity: Brazos Energy Security (3,000 MW, gas combined cycle, Fisher); BM Great Rock Energy Center (1,981 MW, gas combined cycle, Leon); Prairie Ridge (Gas - CC) (1,660 MW, gas combined cycle, Franklin); Hecate Energy Orem Wind (1,542 MW, wind, Brazoria); Aegle Power (1,536 MW, gas combined cycle, Cameron).

How many of these projects have a signed interconnection agreement?

497 have signed an interconnection agreement (323 of them have also posted financial security), 138 are under construction or approved for energization or synchronization, and 1,154 are still in study. See the stage definitions on the ERCOT page.

What changed in September 2026?

Compared with August: 27 projects are new, 48 are no longer listed, and 38 advanced a stage. The project-by-project lists are in the September 2026 update.

Does a listing mean the project will be built?

No. A listing means a developer asked ERCOT to study connecting the project to the grid. Many projects in study are never built, and ERCOT notes its report is built from developer-entered data for planning purposes and may contain errors. Projects further along, with a signed agreement, security posted, or construction under way, are more likely to proceed.

How do I see the projects in my county?

Every Texas county has a page listing its proposed projects, with developer, size, stage, and contacts: open the Texas counties page and pick your county. Got an offer on your land? Read how to check whether a project is real.

Where do these numbers come from, and how often do they update?

From ERCOT's monthly Generator Interconnection Status (GIS) report, published on ERCOT's Resource Adequacy page. This page is rebuilt from each new report, so the figures above are from the September 2026 report; past months are kept at /updates/.
