About Parcel & Grid

Free, sourced site-screening tools, queue data, permit steps, and guides for solar, wind, and storage developers.

What it is

Parcel & Grid looks up any spot in the U.S. against public agency data and links every fact to its source. The guides explain the rest in plain English. Everything here is general information, not a substitute for the advice of an attorney, engineer, or CPA.

Why the name

A site can stop a project cold: a flood zone nobody checked, a wetland in the middle of the layout, a point of interconnection with five requests ahead of yours, a county that passed a moratorium last spring. Parcel & Grid is for getting your footing first: the public facts about a site and the rules around it, each with its source, before the option is signed or the study fee is paid. (The site began as Quicksand Check at quicksandcheck.com; that address now forwards here. The new name says what the site is about: the parcel and the grid it has to reach.)

Project data comes from ERCOT's public reports for Texas, the MISO and PJM public queues for Illinois, and the U.S. Energy Information Administration for Arizona. Parcel & Grid is not affiliated with or endorsed by ERCOT, MISO, PJM, EIA, or any developer.

Who runs it

Parcel & Grid is built and maintained by an independent editor who works in energy project management in Texas. The guides are written and checked by hand; every fact links to a public source, and corrections are made promptly.

The site is independent and based in Texas. It takes no payment from developers or anyone else to include, rank, or describe a project or company. Reach us at the address below.

Independence

Parcel & Grid is a personal project. It is not connected to, sponsored by, or reviewed by any employer, client, or company the editor works with, and nothing here speaks for them. Every figure on the site comes from the public source linked beside it; the site uses no non-public information about any project, landowner, utility, or company. The site does not recommend developers, take positions on specific projects, or broker land, and it is not advice. County project tables and statistical summaries are generated from grid operators' public reports; local notes and rule summaries are maintained separately and link to the evidence used; the operator of this site holds no financial interest in any project listed, and where her employer is active in a county, the hand-written local note for that county is limited to what the county's own documents say. If you think a page creates a conflict with a project you are part of, say so and it will be reviewed. Google AdSense advertising is currently disabled while the site is under review; advertisers have no say in what is written, and no page is written to attract a particular advertiser.
